The Congress of Women came about in 2009, on the 20th anniversary of the political and economic transformation in Poland. Our goal is to shed light on the vast contribution of women to the social, civic and economic transformations, emphasizing women’s role in the building of modern Poland.

A movement that has already made history, proved its very high position in the public life of the country, and developed long-term action plans. At the same time, it is non-political, open, and growing both in strength and significance. Its Council numbers approximately 200 prominent and active women including politicians, entrepreneurs, civil activists, ministers, culture activists, feminists, and women from the left and right of the political spectrum. Patrons of the Congress include Henryka Bochniarz (President of the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan), Magdalena Abakanowicz (sculptor), Danuta Hübner (Member of European Parliament, former EU Commissioner), Henryka Krzywonos (heroine of the Solidarity movement), Danuta Wałęsa (wife of the former President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Wałęsa), Małgorzata Tusk (wife of the Prime Minister Donald Tusk), Jolanta Kwaśniewska (head of foundation, former First Lady), Professor Magdalena Środa (former Minister for Equal Status of Women and Men), Professor Małgorzata Fuszara, Professor Eleonora Zielińska, Olga Tokarczuk (writer) and many others.

Every single year shows that women still need the Congress – our mission is far from over. Polish women – according to the research – constitute the most active and operative group in the European Union. The Congress of Women gives them a forum for sharing their experiences, finding inspiration, and gaining motivation. Without such a platform, effective cooperation beyond political, ideological, and social boundaries would indeed be hard to achieve.

On 14th and 15th September we will meet again in the hospitable premises of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw to discuss the key challenges facing Poland, the contemporary world, and first of all – women!

Be there with us! Change Poland with us! Time for women!
